W.P. Hilts & Co.: Devoted solely to serving the concrete industry with a 'Why Not?' attitude

W.P. Hilts & Co. is celebrating its 40th year of service and dedication to the concrete industry.

In 1970, Bill Hilts started his company with a single underlying philosophy: “Why not?”

Why not specialize in products and services for the entire concrete industry? No other companies back then even came close. That’s exactly what he did and what W.P. Hilts & Co. still does today.

At first, W.P. Hilts & Co. served as a specialized manufacturer’s rep for many companies selling concrete plants and parts. Their second “Why Not?” came as the company realized there was a need for plant customization that was not readily available from manufacturers at a fair and equitable price.

In the 1980s, Bill and his son, Tom, began working closely with customers to engineer, design and build concrete plants. They also began engineering the retrofits of existing plants. Tom is now owner and president of the company. Hilts expanded the product line to encompass a wider range of parts.

The immediate interest in this retrofit service was phenomenal. Today, retrofits and parts are a major portion of what W.P. Hilts does to serve their clients. By offering expanded engineering retrofit design and installation services, W.P. Hilts once again evolved along with the concrete industry -- as the company had been doing for the previous 20 years.

With custom designs to meet specific needs, customers no longer had to accept a “cookie cutter” plant at high prices that didn’t exactly meet their needs. W.P. Hilts & Co. eliminated the industry acceptance of "take it or leave it." Thus the company motto: Custom Designs at Standard Prices.

Given its exceptional history in the industry, it should come as no surprise whatsoever that W.P. Hilts & Co. is bringing an exciting new product to market. “For the last several years my customers have complained about the long delivery time for planetary mixers manufactured overseas,” said Tom Hilts.

“At W.P. Hilts & Co., the question has always been: Why not? It’s where our company philosophy and company history intersect, to be sure. So, why not manufacture our own mixer right here in the U.S., incorporating American parts to increase reliability and control costs? Why not offer readily available parts for this mixer from us or local vendors? Why not customize your mixer from a list of options when making the purchase?”
